Dublin - Next Monday marks the final chance to see the extraordinary Kilcullen Voyager and bid bon voyage to her skipper Enda O’Coineen, as he attempts to become the first Irish person in history to sail non-stop, single handed around the world as part of the renowned Vendée Globe Challenge. You’re invited to the launch event at the CHQ in Dublin from 11:45am, before the Kilcullen Voyager departs for France to begin her epic journey around the world. Lord Mayor of Dublin Brendan Carr will officially launch the Atlantic Youth Trust charity’s Schools Programme on the morning, which encourages young people to follow the epic race and become interested in sailing.
This race is considered to be one of the toughest sporting and human challenges there is - and this is the first ever Irish entrant to the Vendée Globe Challenge. In addition to what Enda O'Coineen describes as a ‘personal odyssey’ and 'bucket list', he is using this race as a way to promote the Atlantic Youth Trust charity, whose mission is to connect young people (in particular those who never had the opportunity) with the ocean and adventure.
