LONDON - Doctors have repeatedly warned that coronavirus patients may be left with life-altering health problems - and now new research has shone a light on the threat posed to the body’s most vital organ.

Brain complications including stroke and psychosis have been linked to Covid-19 in a study “that raises concerns about the potentially extensive impact of the disease in some patients”, The Guardian reports.

Although reports of new Covid-19 cases currently remain in decline in the United Kingdom , “health leaders are calling for an urgent review to ensure Britain is properly prepared for the ‘real risk’ of a second wave”.

Fears are growing that poor social distancing will lead to a resurgence in Covid-19 cases as hot weather leads crowds to flock to the seaside. After police declared a major incident in Bournemouth, Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer for England, said: “If we do not follow social-distancing guidance then cases will rise again. Naturally people will want to enjoy the sun but we need to do so in a way that is safe for all.”

Packed parks and beaches and the prospect of an alcohol-fuelled “super Saturday” when pubs reopen next week have sparked predictions of an impending surge in coronavirus infections in the United Kingdom.
