BRUSSELS - The EU must put pressure on the Israeli government in order to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and in Lebanon, the EU’s foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said as he arrived at a meeting of the bloc’s 27 foreign affairs ministers.
“That is why there is a concrete proposal today on the table … in order to see if what’s happening in Gaza is in accordance with international law,” Mr Borrell said, shortly before tabling a proposal to formally suspend political dialogue with Israel due to its rights beeaches in Gaza. It remains unlikely that he will obtain the necessary unanimous backing for the proposal.
