BRUSSELS - The European Union’s (EU) lobby register has come under renewed criticism following findings that only six lobbyists have been removed due to internal probes over a three-year span.

"Only six lobbyists were removed following investigations and only one of these were prohibited from re-registration," said Jorg Kristijan Petrovič on Tuesday and author of a transparency report.

The EU's lobby register remains riddled with errors, as pro-transparency campaigners demand better data and mandatory oversight rules.

The latest findings come amid a raft of proposals by the European Parliament president to weed out corruption in the wake of the Qatargate lobbying scandal.
