NEW DELHI - One of India's most renowned doctors, Dr SI Padvamati, has died in Delhi aged 103 after being admitted to hospital with coronavirus 11 days ago, according to the Times of India.

She was the country's first female cardiologist and founded the National Heart Institute (NHI) in 1981.

Dr Padvamati was known as the Godmother of Cardiology, according to the head of the NHI.

She continued working into her late 90s, retiring in 2015, and was in good health until she contracted Covid-19, the Times of India reports.

Her colleagues have paid tribute on social media to her "amazing personality" and have highlighted her many accomplishments.(FA)
