London - The epic opera Les Troyens will be broadcast in cinemas worldwide in November, including screenings in Iceland, Ecuador, Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, America, Belgium and Spain. Following the success of Swan Lake, which kicked off the Royal Opera House’s 2012/13 Live Cinema Season last month, Les Troyens is set to delight  audiences with the sheer scale of its story, music, passion, staging and performers, making it one of the great Royal Opera events of the decade.

Les Troyens is taken from Virgil's great poem The Aeneid and dramatises the fall of Troy and Aeneas’ doomed affair with Dido, Queen of Carthage. It brings to life a wealth of human emotions set against the monumental canvas of the rise and fall of the empires.

This new production by celebrated director David McVicar(whose work for The Royal Opera includes Rigoletto, Adriana Lecouvreur and Salome) features an extraordinary world-class cast including Bryan Hymel as the heroic Enée (Aeneas), Eva-Maria Westbroek (the title role in Anna Nicole, Giorgetta in Il tabarro) as his beloved Didon (Dido) and Anna Caterina Antonacci (who created the role of Carmen in Francesca Zambello’s production for The Royal Opera in 2006 as the doomed prophetess Cassandre). It is conducted by The Royal Opera’s Music Director Antonio Pappano conducts the Orchestra of The Royal Opera House and conducts the score for the first time.  Designs are by Es Devlin (designer for the closing ceremony of 2012 Olympics).

The Royal Opera House continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance in cinema both 2D and 3D and the many platforms available including digital downloads, CD, DVD and BLU-ray all distributed through Opus Arte.  Each year the number of cinema sites in the UK alone that carry Royal Opera House screenings is steadily increasing with more than 240 sites in the UK taking the entire Royal Opera House Cinema Season and over 900 sites worldwide.
Les Troyens is screened between 12-29 November worldwide and in Australia in December.  Audiences will not have to travel far to experience the spine-tingling thrill and excitement of world-class opera.
