LAGOS, NIGERIA - The number of people kidnapped in Nigeria increased 6% over the past year to 3,620, according to Lagos-based political risk consultancy SBM Intelligence.

The northern states of Kaduna, Niger, and Zamfara recorded the highest numbers of abductions, underscoring security challenges in that part of the country where armed groups routinely raid villages and kidnap residents for ransom.
