QUELIMANE, Mozambique - The badly mutilated body of a child has been found in a rubbish dump at a market in Mozambique's central city of Quelimane, police say.

The boy's eyes, heart, skull, and genitals had been removed.

The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition in Quelimane's Lusaka neighbourhood on Sunday - about 10 days after the boy had gone missing.

A man had been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the trafficking human organs, police said.

The body's age is unclear, but he is believed to be below nine years.

Murder, mutilation and exhuming human bones for witchcraft have become a common practice in parts of Mozambique.

The body parts are sold in neighbouring states, including Malawi and Tanzania.(FA)
