WEST BANK - A Palestinian journalist and at least 16 other people were detained by Israeli forces overnight Sunday and Monday morning.

Sabri Jibril's home, a 35-year-old journalist, was raided in a town in Bethlehem province before Israeli forces detained him, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club (PPC) advocacy group said.

He was reportedly recently stopped at a military checkpoint when returning from an event about Palestinian prisoners where he took photos.

Israeli forces confiscated Jibril's mobile phone and press card.

Five Palestinians were detained in Hizma, a town in the Jerusalem province. Another from Qatanna, a town in the same province, was also detained, official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

A former Palestinian detainee was picked up again by Israeli forces from his home in Al-Bireh, close to Ramallah, the heart of the Palestinian Authority's limited power.

In Qalqilya, a city in the occupied West Bank, two Palestinians were detained, including another who previously spent time behind Israeli bars.

Israeli forces also detained a Palestinian from Tammun, a town near the West Bank city of Tubas.

It comes as the Israeli navy reportedly detained six Palestinian fishermen off the coast of Gaza.

They had been on two boats near the city of Rafah in the besieged enclave.

Israeli forces confiscated the ships and detained the fishermen.

Israel's military routinely raids the West Bank in operations that can be fatal for Palestinians.

Celebrated journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was covering one such raid at the Jenin refugee camp when she was killed by Israeli forces in May.

"Measured as a monthly average, 2022 is the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank since the United Nations started systematically counting fatalities in 2005, with 127 Palestinians killed so far this year," the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a report on Friday.
