GLASGOW - A depraved sex attacker raped a frail pensioner in her own home and told her ‘you’re strong like my granny’.

John Laming, 32, has been jailed for eight years after the sickening assault on the 80-year-old woman last Christmas Eve.

Laming targeted his terrified victim when she was asleep in bed, just 12 days after being released from prison. She screamed for help, but when no one appeared to respond, Laming taunted her: ‘Some neighbours you have got’.

The former heating engineer then sat down to drink a can of juice before fleeing the scene in Rutherglen, close to Glasgow. But he returned moments later after dropping his vape e-cigarette at the property. Laming was arrested for the vile crime after being found hiding in a garden close to a house he shares with his mum in Rutherglen.

He pleaded guilty to assault and rape. Sentencing him at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lady Stacey said: ‘What you did was a terrible crime. You should be completely ashamed. ‘It must have been extremely frightening for the woman involved. ‘She was in her own home minding her own business.’(FA)
