LONDON - Thursday 8 April 2021, COP26 President Designate Alok Sharma attended the 2021 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, as part of the event ‘Three Green Transitions: How Systems Are Changing for People and Planet.’
This event looked at actions that are powering a resilient, inclusive and sustainable recovery across these sectors and highlight key priorities that can support a successful COP26 later this year, featuring young voices, recognizing their unique role in supporting climate
In addition there were three “side by side” discussions covering the three systems with interventions from government and private sector leaders, with particular emphasis on participation from developing countries. The event included interventions on core COP26 priorities, including a pre-recorded speech from the Duke of Cambridge on the importance of nature in tackling climate change.
Mr Sharm urge “countries to plan for green, resilient recoveries, and again, for the Bank to support them. This is vital. Institutions across the world, both public and private, look to the World Bank for leadership. And the decisions we take today, as we repair the terrible economic damage inflicted by Covid-19, will decide the shape of the world’s economies for decades to come.” He concluded his remarks by saying that, “ we must act now. And seize the opportunities presented by green recoveries.
To reduce poverty. Increase prosperity. And promote sustainable development.
Preserving our precious planet for future generations.”
