WASHINGTON - US President Joe Biden will commit the US to cutting emissions in half by 2030 during a virtual climate summit with 40 world leaders.
Mr. Biden is set to formally make the announcement at the start of the summit, using Earth Day to proclaim America’s return to a position of global leadership on climate change and to urge other countries to make equally steep cuts.
The new target aims to see US emissions drop 50 percent to 52 percent below 2005 levels by 2030, White House officials said.
