Doning a traditional Habesha skirt, a knock-off “Supreme” shirt, and a Kalashnikov in hands, a young Afar boy named Tifa, offers a comico-tragic scene. Water scarcity in the region is exacerbating armed conflict in an area already torn by the Tigray war.

This is Soukaina's selected photography work capturing the climate crisis in Afar land, Northern Ethiopia. The Afars are the world’s last nomadic, pastoralist tribes. Catastrophic weather events, barren wilderness, and arid temperatures reaching + 50 C are threatening to wipe out the tribe.
