ABIDJAN - Ivory Coast's main presidential election challenger has called for a civil disobedience campaign to stop President Alassane Ouattara's bid for a third term in office in next month's elections.

Henri Konan Bédié - a former president - declared that the opposition parties were united to protect the stability of the nation.

At least 10 people have been killed since riots broke out last month after Mr Ouattara declared he would run again following the sudden death of his handpicked successor.

The election is seen as a major test of the stability of the West African state since a disputed election led to civil war 10 years ago.(FA)
