KIGALI - Rwanda has backed a crackdown by the Democratic Republic of Congo's military on Hutu rebels operating in the border region between the two countries.

The Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels operate in North Kivu and South Kivu provinces in eastern DR Congo.

Its members fled into neighbouring DR Congo after the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

Olivier Nduhungirehe, Rwanda's minister for East Africa, has said that the group will be defeated by the Congolese army.

"Thanks to the Congolese army, the days of the FDLR are numbered," he tweeted.(FA)
